One Room Challenge - Week Four

Welcome to week four of the One Room Challenge Linking Event hosted by the talented Linda of Calling It Home.  For this challenge I decided to re-do my laundry room and hallway.  If you'd like, you can catch up on weeks One, Two and Three

What The Hell was I thinking going on vacation for two of the six weeks during the One Room Challenge?  Oh, maybe that I am super woman (I'm not) or that I would get so much done before I left and be ahead of the game (I didn't).  So, here I am, not very far along...at all.  And I only have two weeks until the reveal.  Good thing I am heading home from Colorado on Saturday (boo! hiss!)

Did I mention that I hate sheetrock repair?  Oh, yes, I did so last week.  And I might again next week.  Why?  Because Mud.  Sand.  Mud.  Sand.  Mud.  Sand.  This vicious cycle absolutely sucks.  It actually kind of reminds me of Sandgate that happened to Mrs. Chez V last ORC Linking Party.

I. Hate. Sheetrock. Repair.

Yep, still hate it.

The good news is that we are almost done.  And I use the term "we" loosely as it has been my parents doing the mudding and sanding as I've been 2,000 miles away in Colorado.

And since we are almost done, we can start with this stuff.

Let's look at my to-do list, shall we?  You'd better get a glass of wine for this one.  Don't worry, I'll wait.  Here goes:
  • Finish effing sheetrock repair
  • Hang moulding & board & batten
  • Replace tile
  • Caulk moulding
  • Paint
  • Hang wallpaper
  • Change doors on washer/dryer
  • Make table for folding
  • New storage & shelving
  • Make it pretty
  • Photograph it
  • Burn the midnight oil
Yes, that looks about right.  Wish me luck.  It's going to be crazy the next two weeks, but at least I have a few more days with these hooligans.

Be sure to check out the other One Room Challenge Linking Participants and the One Room Challenge Folks as well!

One Room Challenge - Week Three

Hello Y'all.  I am sorry I am so late to the party.  I traveled all week for work and then flew on Thursday across the country to visit my sister and nieces and nephews for Easter.  I meant to post yesterday (Linda, I suck, I know...I am so sorry) but I was busy with this girl.

Anywhoo, welcome to the One Room Challenge Linking Event.  Unfamiliar with how this challenge works?  You can catch up Week One here and Week Two here

So, week three of the challenge has been...challenging.  There are many, many things that I am good at when it comes to home improvement.  Armed with a good attitude and my Master's Degree from Google University, I can pretty much accomplish anything.  Plumbing?  Check.  Electrical?  Done.  Tile work?  Easy.  Mudding sheetrock?  Epic fail.  Seriously, I suck.  Bad.

Before leaving for Easter break, I knew I needed to remove and replace the tile flooring, hang new sheetrock and prep the walls for their moulding treatment and wallpaper.  Guess how much got done?  Not much.

The cut tiles from where the walls used to be were removed and coordinating craptastic tile was sourced and purchased.  For the bargain price of $.98 a square foot.  Wonder why it was on closeout?  Uh, maybe because it is ugly?  Yeah, that's definitely why.

New sheetrock was cut and hung (by yours truly, with many, many, many curse words uttered...just sayin) and I began taping and mudding the seams.  I got about 1/25 of the way done and realized that it just isn't my forte.  I never could ice a cake very well either.  Maybe I should have known.  So...I tearily had to call in reinforcements aka Mom and Dad. They came to the rescue and began working on the seams the day before I had to fly out.

So as not to leave you with nothing pretty to look at, I promise some progress has been made.  For instance, I have sourced the following.  I will leave it up to you to decide where and how I plan to use it all.

One Room Challenge - Week #2

Hello and welcome to the second week of the One Room Challenge Linking Event hosted by the ever-fabulous Linda of Calling it Home.  I'm so glad that you agreed to a second date!  If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you can catch up here.

So this week was all about demo.  No prettiness happening, just lots of hard work.  I'd like to say that I burned off a bunch of calories demoing the closet in the laundry room, but I quickly replaced what I did burn off with beverages of the adult variety.  Now I totally get why construction workers drink beer!

I started by clearing out the crap that I had stored in there and removing the shelving that was installed by the stupid builder.

Then I got started on demoing the wall.  It was so. much. fun.

And after a few hours and the removal of the studs, I have this...

And, just as I feared, there was no tile beneath the closet walls.  So, this week I have been trying to decide if I can find a similar craptastic tile to replace those that are missing/cut or replace the flooring altogether with a laminate wood.  Decisions, decisions.

For the hallway, I am still debating on paint color.  I *finally* finished painting my dining-room-turned-office the raspberry color and I. Love. It.  (sidenote:  did I tell you why I started painting my dining room a few days prior to the start of the ORC?  No, not because I'm insane...Because I am hosting Bunco at my house tonight.  Yes, for that reason alone, I felt compelled to paint.  Wait, maybe I am insane.)

I have decided to continue the wainscoting from the dining-room-turned-office into that hallway rather than doing a board and batten treatment.  My struggle is whether I should continue the same white (Behr Parchment Paper) or go bold from the moulding down with a turquoise.  This paper is what is going above the moulding in the hallway.

In other hall-related news, I was cleaning out the shithole dumping grounds formal living room, and came across this fixture.  (I mean, who does that?  Who is cleaning a room and comes across a LIGHT FIXTURE and forgot she had?  *see insane declaration above*)

It's pretty boring as is, but I have plans to make it amazing.  For sneak peeks follow me on Instagram (houseofpemberley).

One Room Challenge - Week 1

Hello and welcome!  If you are new here, allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Kimber and I am a Southern girl that lives in Alabama (Roll Tide!).  Last year my world was turned upside down and I was given a big ol' bag of lemons.  So I decided to make lemonade.  This blog is where I share updates to our home affectionately known as #ProjectLemonade, client work, fabulous finds, and frequently occasionally curse.  I enjoy wine, color, music and long walks on the beach.  If that sounds interesting to you, let's go steady for the next six weeks, shall we?

Why six weeks, you ask?  I will be participating each Thursday in the One Room Challenge Linking Party.  Unfamiliar with the ORC?  Linda, from Calling It Home fame, challenges 20 bloggers to re-do one room in six weeks and report progress each Wednesday.  Be sure to check out the line-up this time.  It is going to be amazing.

Linda also hosts a party for those of us that want to play along from home on Thursdays.  Last ORC I did my bedroom...you can see it here.

This time I decided to tackle my laundry room and hallway.  Brace yourselves for some truly horrific before pictures.

Hoarder much???

Yes, I started painting my office two days before the start of the ORC.  #masochist

Garage door with peeling paint...nice

So here's my plan of attack:
  • Rip out the closet in the laundry room because it is truly a waste of space
  • Build a long table where I can throw fold clothes
  • Add wainscoting
  • New flooring in the laundry room
  • Organize & clean
  • Hooks for backpacks & other kid stuff in the hallway
  • Ditch the boob light (and throat punch the inventor of them)
  • And another eleventy billion other things I'm certainly forgetting (including doing the laundry you see piled up everywhere)
I've been through about 75 designs for the space and still haven't truly decided on one yet.  But I think I am leaning toward this.

#projectlemonade laundry

Looks fun, right?  And totally do-able in six weeks?  Be sure to check out the other linking participants and give them some love. And maybe some wine.  Yes, definitely some wine.
