One Room Challenge - Week Four

Week Four of the One Room Challenge is the equivalent of hell week.  Or the second week of a diet (because the first week I am typically steadfast and resolute).  Or that one week each cycle lovingly bestowed on of-age females worldwide.  In other words, week four is what makes you question your sanity (again), drink heavily (who are we kidding?  we have been drinking heavily throughout this challenge), and acknowledge...gulp...that you have two weeks until the reveal.

This week crown has been hung

 

 A wall color has been selected (it's blue...or is it black?)

A cabinet has been painted

The inside of the cabinet has been given some special treatment

And art and rugs are being considered

One Room Challenge - Week Three

Hello and welcome to Week Three of the One Room Challenge.  If you have not been following along, are new here, or are living under a rock, the One Room Challenge was created by Linda from Calling It Home to encourage individuals to completely redo a room in their homes in 6 weeks.  This sounds pretty innocuous, but I can assure you it is not. Here we are, halfway through the challenge and my hair is grayer, my jeans are tighter, and my booze cupboard is empty.

For my third ORC (see here and here for my previous challenges), I decided to update my master bathroom.  I showed you the dismal before photos during week one and during week two I discussed the plan.  This week has been all about lighting.  Last week I teased you with the crystals I ordered to redo the antique chandelier.  When I found it at an estate sale it was in pieces.  And I do mean PIECES.  I lovingly put it back together as best as I could, rewired, and hung it without addressing the heinous plastic beads posing as crystals.  It was like a supermodel dressed in a potato sack.  Or like a shiny new Bentley covered in mud.  Okay, so analogies are not my forte; luckily, stringing crystals is.  

I ordered five packages of crystals and bronze chain parts that, when put together, equal 75 feet of gorgeousness from this seller on eBay.  When the package was delivered I sat down and began the arduous task of connecting each individual crystal with the chain.  By the time I was done my fingers and shoulders were killing me; however, when you see the after below, you'll agree that my pain is your pleasure because it is good.  Really good.

Isn't she so much better?  And, I'm happy to announce that I almost have the feeling back in my finger tips.  Yay!

The next lighting issue that needed to be addressed is the vanity area.  Currently there is an ugly single sconce centered above the two mirrors.  It. Has. Got. To. Go.  My plan was to put a pair of sconces between the mirrors a la this photo below (say hello to Justin who is making his blog and One Room Challenge debut - sidenote and funny story...when I suggested that we redo the bathroom for the ORC, he agreed as long as I promised not to yell at him during this project.  I promised to "endeavor" to not yell).

 

Then my mama came over.  And she had an opinion on the topic (and every other topic known to man, but I digress).  She thought that the two sconces between the mirrors would not look right.  She wanted to see other options.  And by "see other options", I mean she wanted me to make a design board for each option that she could study.  Being the excellent daughter that I am, and knowing that my mama has impeccable taste and I truly do value her (many) opinions, I sent her these.

Bet you'll never guess what happened.  Yep, she chose the original design.  #facepalm 

I also purchased some gorgeous trim for the balloon shade while in New York with my daughter.  I did not have my fabric swatch with me and went off memory, praying that it would work.  Flying by the seat of my pants paid off because it could not be more perfect.

One Room Challenge - Week Two

Hello and welcome to the second week of the One Room Challenge - a six week, one room makeover challenge spearheaded by Linda from Calling it Home.  Last week you learned my dirty little secret - my master bathroom - and that we plan to put lipstick on that ugly pig during this challenge.  

I will be honest and say that structurally there was not much progress during this week.  Unless you consider countless hours spent shopping, planning, re-planning, and bribing progress.  If so, then we have progress!

The gorgeous Chinese Lantern in Lemon by Lee Jofa is my starting off point.  This fabric is everything...and so much better in person. 

I planned to paint my walls that gorgeous olive green and bring in that light blue to accent the ceiling.  Then reality struck me:  I have brown tile.  And who can forget my lamenting over my brown tile during my last One Room Challenge?  I try to pay a lot of attention on the temperature of a room and I feared that the olive green married with the brown would be too warm.

Yep, definitely brown.  Which is exactly where the bribing part of my aforementioned progress comes in:  trying to convince a certain mister that replacing the tile would be an *easy* fix.  They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach...in my experience the way to Justin saying yes is ALSO through his stomach...so I will be baking lots of goodness with the hopes of that blessed head nod of affirmation.

In the meantime, I needed to have a back-up plan.  So, I came up with this.

Pale blue walls and painting my faux bamboo cabinet olive green.  In my head it is amazing. We will see in real life.

I also ordered about eleventy billion of these to replace the crystals in my chandelier.  I haven't yet mentioned that little project to the mister yet.  I'm sure he will be thrilled.

Just as thrilled as he is when he opens up his text messages and sees 9 rug photos to choose from. Because all men love online rug shopping, right?

One Room Challenge - Week #1

Well hello there.  Long time, no chat.  For those of you who don't remember me, my name is Kimber and I used to write a semi-witty, semi-fun blog about my adventures in decorating.  I'm back!  Aren't you thrilled?  And not only am I back, I'm also back just in time to join my third round of the One Room Challenge.  You can view my master bedroom makeover here my laundry room makeover here. 

If you are not familiar with the ORC, it is the brainchild of the ever-chic Linda from Calling it Home.  She challenges you to completely makeover a room in your home in 6 weeks.  This sounds like a lot of time, but let me and the cashier at my local wine retailer tell you, it is not.

For this round, I have chosen to makeover my master bathroom.  As much as I would love to gut this room and start from scratch, that just isn't in the cards right now.  So we will just be putting lipstick on this pig.  Speaking of pigs, I am showing you how my bathroom looks as of today.  Don't judge.  Or judge if you want to, but at least add a "Bless her heart" to it.

We have been back in this house for 3 years now and I have not touched this room.  That is all going to change.  Which brings me to my plan, or as much of a plan as I have been able to come up with.
